One person who deserves to be credited for the success of the ongoing African Cup of Nations is four times African Player of the year, Samuel Eto’o. The former Barcelona striker fought against campaigns by clubs in Europe for the postponement of the tournament.
He went to the extent of even promising that, he will “defend with the last energy the holding of this African Cup of Nations […] we are very clear about our commitment to make [the Africa Cup of Nations] a success in Cameroon. […] We will all be present in Cameroon in a few weeks.”
Today, he is ripping the benefits as he proudly shares some experiences from the ongoing games so far. The football legend says, Cameroon’s decision to host the tournament has brought world standard football to the country and also boosts continental connections.
“Hosting the Africa Cup of Nations not only brings world-class football to Cameroon, it’s also an opportunity to strengthen the bonds between our nations,” Samuel Eto’o wrote whilst saying that, efforts will be put in place to make sure the best comes from the tournament.
“I’m honoured to welcome the Central African Football Federations’ Union to Douala, and look forward to working towards invigorating the organisation to ensure we meet the expectations of our youth,” he said whilst addressing an audience in Cameroon.
